25 Years of BONFILS Intubation Endoscopes
Twenty-five years ago, the first study on the retromolar intubation method was published by Swiss anesthesiologist Dr. Bonfils in the “Anaesthesist,” entitled “Difficult intubation in Pierre-Robin children, a new method: the retromolar route” (BONFILS P, Anaesthesist 1983, 32:363-7).
Today, the rigid BONFILS intubation endoscope by KARL STORZ is recognized as a safe and rapid instrument for routine intubation and for the intubation of unexpectedly difficult airways.
The instrument has been tried and proven in the retromolar application, where a small mouth opening is sufficient and the patient’s head does not need to be hyperextended. Its 40 degree angle permits targeted insertion in front of the vocal cords – the 110 degree angle of view ensures the necessary overview. The BONFILS intubation endoscope is the only instrument on the market guaranteeing safe insertion of the tube into the trachea, as both the true glottis and the tube are viewed simultaneously (what you see is what you get).
Thanks to its robust design and its ability to be used together with the KARL STORZ LED battery light source, the intubation endoscope is used in both clinical and pre-clinical settings.
Product features:
- Retromolar oral insertion technique
- Optimal 40° distal angle
- Continuous oxygen flow available via tube adapter
- Suitable for emergency medicine both in the clinical and preclinical settings
- Available with 2 mm, 3.5 mm and 5 mm outside diameter
- Quick and safe reprocessing
