The C-MAC™ video laryngoscope
With the D-BLADE as another component of the C-MAC system, KARL STORZ proves to be a market leader once again - because we understand airway management. Based on 60 years of experience in endoscopy and 10 years of experience in the field of video laryngoscopy, the new C-MAC™ video laryngoscope from KARL STORZ combines various technical disciplines.
As a result, the system is suitable for routine clinical procedures in the OR, intensive care medicine and emergency hospitalization, as well as preclinical procedures using ground or air-based lifesaving equipment.
The D-BLADE laryngoscope blade primarily differs from conventional laryngoscopes in shape. The D-BLADE is characterized by an elliptical, tapering, distally rising blade shape. This design is the result of more than 60 years of experience in ENT, extensive imaging, and years of experience in airway management – and as such represents the ultimate solution in airway management.
D-BLADE will fill the gap between the MACINTOSH laryngoscopes and the flexible fiberscopes. Especially in patients with difficult anatomies (C&L III and IV), D-BLADE can represent a fast and simple solution. Since all components can be exchanged in seconds, users can also switch to the D-BLADE after initial assessment with, e.g., a Macintosh laryngoscope. When used properly, swelling, bleeding, and other "side effects" can then be avoided.
Its optimal length and the strong blade curvature also allow the intubation of patients with a large, ventrally displaced epiglottis.
The closed design of the laryngoscope allows the D-BLADE to be processed in the same way as all the other components, using the following methods:

The C-MAC™ as a system for the hospital:
- Emergency: The C-MAC™ is suitable ideally for the emergency, due to its optimal Ergonomics, fast ground readiness as well as the mobility.
- Routine intubation: owing to T3 concept (Tip Tube Target) you can see during intubation the tip of the blade, the tube and the anatomy. The Magill forceps acc. to BOEDEKER, adapted to MACINTOSH 4 form, supports the simplified placement of the tube as well as a removing of foreign bodies. The alignment of the monitor can be made over icons which afford an easy and fast employment.
- Difficult intubation: The new blade shape of D-BLADE permits successful intubation even in difficult cases.
- Hygiene: the simple treatment is given due to the stainless steel and skilful design in the European closed form of the video laryngoscope, protection cap and cleaning tray.
- Training: due to the standard blade form and the image representation on a little monitor, this system is suitable outstanding for the training
- System solution: the available MACINTOSH blades (size 2, 3, 4) can be changed fast and surely by the C-MAC™ electronic module as interface to the monitor. The VESA75 attachment standard on the back side of the intelligent C-MAC™ monitor makes a flexible adaption possible (e.g. IV stand, cart).
- Documentation: The C-MAC™ video laryngoscope enables detail screens as well as video sequences to be captured and stored on a SD card.
The C-MAC™ for the Emergency:
- Difficult intubation: The new blade shape of D-BLADE permits successful intubation even in difficult cases.
- Weather: the C-MAC™ video laryngoscope defies environmental conditions due to the splash-water protection, the resistant ABS plastic housing and the fast adjustable brightness.
- Mobility: The small weight, the long battery life and a protection bag for the complete system make a fast employment possible.
- Trauma: The BOEDEKER- DÖRGES blade supports the visually controlled employment of a suction catheter. Furthermore the blade’s optimized height and flattened proximal end ensures minimal discomfort for the patient.
